The ideal candidate is organized, accountable, self-motivated, and experienced with Amazon RDS, Aurora DB clusters, connection management, replication, security and serverless.

This position (which can be performed 100% remotely) requires a balance between design and implementation, a high sense of ownership of the problems, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with objectives, great communication with stakeholders, and the hands-on expertise to implement designs, make changes on production systems, and proactively escalate issues. In this role, you will be responsible for key improvements to a mission-critical Aurora/RDS platform supporting a fast-scaling global financial services company, including design, data flow, infrastructure, security and overall performance.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and execute on improvements to a scaled Amazon RDS/Aurora environment, ensuring optimal performance, availability and reliability.  This will require close collaboration with a small team of engineers to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems. Also critical is the follow-up delivery of a breadth of implementation, migration and operational services across a growing global footprint in the cloud.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a highly-scaled production Amazon RDS environment

  • 2+ years’ experience with Amazon Aurora, DB clusters, connection management, replication, and serverless, ideally with specific experience around security and encryption

  • 7+ years’ overall experience in Data Administration in scaled production MySQL or PostgreSQL environments

  • Broad experience across multiple database platforms

  • Ability and desire to quickly learn new systems

  • Ability and desire to automate solutions

  • Ability to work with multiple teams in an effective and collaborative manor

  • Ability to relate complex technical problems to non-technical business stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

We pay very competitively and have excellent healthcare and other benefits. This is a consulting opportunity, which may be performed 100% remotely, likely to last 6+ months, with the possibility of extension and conversion (if desired).  This is a remote opportunity, recruiting within the US only. Unfortunately at this time we are not able to provide sponsorship for employment and request no agency submissions. Thank you!
